Anthony
took his first photographs at the age of 13 and at that time was
concerned with recording social history. He then became interested
in fine art and went on to study at the Croguis School of Art
in Copenhagen, concentrating on portraiture and miniatures, working
in water colours and silhouettes.
Having
spent several years producing portraits and reflecting nature
in his painting, Anthony was drawn back to film and entered commercial
photography recording architectural development. Much of this
work has been published both in the UK and worldwide in such publications
as ÒWorld ArchitectureÓ. He was also a registered sports photographer
and his subjects in this area have included athletics and cricket,
working at many venues including Crystal Palace and LordÕs Cricket
Ground.
As
a child, Anthony visited Hastings and subsequently returned regularly,
being attracted by the Old Town, the surrounding countryside and
the rich seam of art and music. After many years as a visitor,
Anthony became a resident in the year 2000 in order to develop
his photographic and art skills using nature as his subject. This
has led to him becoming a local photographic archivist, recording
not only the varied landscapes but also the many celebrations,
traditions and characters of the area.
Rock-a-shore is an ongoing project studying the forms of the natural
world and their contribution to art - the geological photographs
alone are an example of the many canvasses that go to make up
our planet. The images in this exhibition were taken in the Greek
Islands and Hastings and the surrounding area and demonstrate
how nature is not only the subject of this artist but is art itself
that can be enjoyed by all - if we have eyes to see.
Just
a few examples of the Rock-a-Shore project are shown above.
